Definitely love the arcade style. I've never been too big on points. Depending on the game will usually determine whether I will care about points or not. Even if I end up caring, it's minute.
That being said this game looks like alot of fun. The stage seen at 5:49 is a perfect example of the old side scroller space shooters like R-Type, Gradius, Life Force, etc. I loved those games and can totally see myself playing this title. I was jazzed about it when I first saw the footage some many months ago.
Other reviews give it praise as well. You hit the main points and I think that is what gamers need to hear about this game. Great 3D, rail esque, arcade fun in a futuristic world with floating amoebas in industrial cities! Boom!

Good review. Most of what you said is exactly what I thought about this game.
About the story; If you played the first, you might remember the main characters Saki and (Iren?)
And then there was the little boy who was somehow their son from the future or something like that.
That was Saki. And I guess he transforms into that creature at the end because he's Saki's son, and Saki was a similar creature.
The rest of the story is completely whacked out. o_O

I haven't picked this one up (yet

) but yeah when I have enough money for all games then I will surely pick it up but next buy will be Dragon Quest IX soo it will be a while but I really liked the original on the VC kinda short but never beat it on hard though but came far and yeah the story is kinda WTF? when you start and they kept it like that for the sequel too I guess
